Life inside the Wall

Grady Sizemore contemplates...

Alright, this is my second time trying this post, so it might lack some of the details in the setup. Earlier this summer, my wife and I won a prize in the NECN silent auction for the Pan Mass Challenge. We wrote a check toward the PMC’s $34 million fundraising goal, and had the most wonderful opportunity to go to Fenway park, watch batting practice from the field, take in the pre-game ceremonies from the warning track, and watch the first three innings of the game from inside the Green Monster.

First of all – the PMC is amazing, and the $34 million-plus they will raise to fight cancer this year is incredible.

But second – this was the coolest night ever.

We’ll start with watching batting practice, which was really interesting on its own. Standing within swinging distance of Jason Bay, Jason Varitek, Mike Lowell, Grady Sizemore (who I have to say, is one of the best-looking people on the planet, and Travis Hafner (who is one of the biggest this side of the NFL), was cool.

at the WallAnd watching the game from inside the Monster was plain and simple. Coolest. Thing. Ever. (Well, up there, anyway.)

So, check out the photostream if you are interested – and one other thing to note. The Red Sox have treated me very well this year. Back in February, I had a problem with a Sox Pack (having bought four tickets and then had a problem in the payment process), and they took care of me. And the woman who was our guide this time, Kate, was just fantastic. For a team that really doesn’t need to be nice to sell tickets – the Sox are pretty damn nice.
