So, I’d write more if I wasn’t buried… but I wanted to at least get today’s post up on the fact-checking bonanza that was last night’s debate. I mentioned a few of my faves… and if any of you guys have some other ideas, I am very open to them. I feel like I’m in a factchecking rut.
And here’s my spiel to accompany the post – from NECN.com:
The Internet has changed the way Americans watch debates. Near real-time fact checking has become a much larger part of the process.
A number of mainstream blogs last night examined the candidates’ claims as soon as they made them – with places like the New York Times putting some of their best-known journalists on factcheck duty during the debate.
Citizens rolled up their sleeves, using a "#factcheck" hashtag in their Twitter messages to send factcheck documents to thousands of followers as the debate went on.
And this morning, almost every major newspaper and website have factcheck columns, and the sites I have mentioned before, Politifact and Factcheck.org, have long and valuable point by point breakdowns of the candidate claims. Give them a look!
